Description

Arua Diocese, located in the northwestern part (West Nile region) of Uganda, covers the civil districts of Arua, Adjumani, Maracha, Koboko, Moyo, Terego, Obongi, Yumbe, the northern part of Zombo, and Arua City. The Diocese was created on June 23, 1958, by Pope Pius XII, having been cut off from the then Gulu Diocese. The Diocese is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. There are four vicariates in the Diocese: Ediofe Vicariate, Lodonga Vicariate, Moyo Vicariate and the Vicariate for Refugees and Migrants.

The Diocese has 60 parishes and 12 deaneries grouped into vicariates:

  • Ediofe Vicariate has the following deaneries: Arivu, Ediofe and Ombaci,
  • Lodonga Vicariate consists of Aripea, Lodonga, Maracha and Otumbari
  • Moyo Vicariate comprises Adjumani, Metu, Moyo, Obongi and Pakele
  • Migrants and Refugee Vicariate comprises all the refugee settlements throughout the diocese.
