Catholic-founded and Catholic-oriented primary schools in the Lugazi Diocese made their annual pilgrimage on March 6, 2026, to Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral, under the theme: “Oh Lord, Let Me See Again; I, Your Pilgrim of Hope.”

The celebrations began with Holy Mass presided over by the Vicar General of Lugazi Diocese, Msgr. Dr. Richard Kayondo, who represented the Ordinary of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza.

In his message, Msgr. Kayondo conveyed the bishop’s appreciation to headteachers, teachers, and pupils for their contribution to the successful national celebration and pilgrimage to Namugongo Martyrs Shrine last year. He encouraged schools to continue participating in the annual pilgrimage to Namugongo as a way of strengthening their faith.

He described a pilgrimage as “a journey of faith, to a place of faith, by a person of faith to strengthen faith.” He also urged school administrators, teachers, and pupils to work together and support one another for greater success.

Addressing teachers, Msgr. Kayondo encouraged them to nurture the spiritual growth of pupils by promoting prayer and participation in Sunday Mass so that the children may grow up “rich in heart and faith.” He also challenged headteachers to work hard to develop the institutions entrusted to them.

The Diocesan Education Secretary, Rev. Fr. Gerald Bwenvu, thanked the headteachers for organizing the successful pilgrimage and for their continued support of the children.
